We've been around for almost 3 years now. Currently, we're a hair away from having 10,000 members here. That's not too shabby for a site which has a negative $dollar$ budget, zero income, and donated resources!

Year 2009 was just ok. Here's hoping a better 2010 for all! See ya next time.

WE'RE ALMOST TOO BIG TO FAIL! haha. Today we have reached another milestone and doubled our members here. We now have over 8,000 members. See my older posts to track our progress. It took us a little over 13 months to double-up from our previous 4,000 member mark. Currently we have 64% Guys and 36% Gals.

This site has been a great experience/experiment, and I think clearly shows how the other sites are really ripping people off and lying out of their tail for your money. But you can decide that for yourself.

According to quantcast.com, our rank has moved down a bit from the last time we checked. It is currently sitting at 442,878. Not too shabby! Here's a link to the results.

In the meantime, we'll still be here for ya! Let's see what happens next...

Happy Holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year to all! Let's hope more of those rip-off paid dating sites go out of business in 2009. This is the same message I posted last year, but the rip-off's are still alive.  :)

It looks like $money$ is tight all around the globe. Aren't you glad we're here?!  :)

We haven't done a traffic update in quite a while, so here we go. According to quantcast.com, our rank is currently sitting at 353,824. We'll take it! Here's a link to the results.

In other news, we have given up in trying to deal with earthlink.net and peoplepc.com regarding our email problems. Both companies simply refuse to answer our emails. So, that is that I suppose. But, I have updated the sign-up process so new users will get a friendly message if they happen to try to sign-up with either of those domains in their email address.

Déjà vu: ATTENTION POTENTIAL NEW MEMBERS:
We are currently experiencing major problems sending emails to peoplepc.com & earthlink.net email addresses. This is Déjà vu for us, if you've read my previous entries.

If you experience a problem, please use an alternate email address when signing up to our site. I'll update you here once the problem is resolved. I've sent correspondence on May 19th to the necessary folks, but so far I have not received any response. Once again it's looking like it may take some time, so I've decided to post this note. I apologize for this temporary inconvenience.  :(

We have surpassed 4,000 Members today! Currently we have 60% Guys and 40% Gals. It took us a little over 6 months to double-up from our 2,000 member mark. Even though we don't get any media support like other sites, we're still cooking.

Our problem with Yahoo email addresses has finally been resolved, thankfully. I figured this would take a while, and that's why I posted the previous entry. Hopefully in the future we won't have problems with other email services too.

As a growing website with little resources, companies don't exactly jump when we need them to fix a problem for us. That's how it goes.  :)

Happy Birthday WheresMyStar.com!

Today marks our 1 year anniversary. We've reached 2,860 members in that time. This is not nearly as much as I anticipated. But drawing attention to this site still remains a difficult task. Hey, we're only 1 year old. Should I complain?  :)

A site like ours gets drowned in the sea of the crappy scammer dating sites. And people continue to pay for those sites, which just adds fuel to the fire and helps with their advertising abilities. As a free site, we don't have that kind of money for advertising and haven't made 1 dime yet.

We depend heavily on word-of-mouth for this site to reach other people. And it doesn't seem that it has been working very well so far. Nevertheless, we still have very high hopes. We also have plenty of features that separates us from the rest of the bunch...and more on the way.

Everyone who's here knows that we don't send you spam emails or sell your address to spam companies like other places do. Once you sign up here, the next day your email inbox will not suddenly be filled with junk.

We have surpassed 2,000 Members yesterday! Currently we have 56% Guys and 44% Gals. It took us a little over 5 months to get our first 1,000 members; and it took us almost 4 months to get the next 1,000 members. People are coming in a bit quicker and that's good.

Our Scam Watch document has been updated for your reading pleasure. Hey, I wish I could name names in this document. Even though I cannot, it's not too difficult to figure out the sites that I'm talking about. Surf around a little and you'll see. It's the usual lying-for-money suspects.

A lot of dating sites don't want you to know the real activity happening on their site. They use robots and scripts to simulate activity with fake members, and even employ people for this purpose.

We have nothing to hide around here. And we sure hope you appreciate that.

A New Feature has been released today. Members now have the ability to make their photos public or private. After logging in, go to the Update Preferences link to view or change your personal settings.

Here's some quick effects of choosing to make your photos private:
* Gives you greater anonymity.
* Allows you to be more selective in who can see your photos. You are always in control.
* Only members you Spark, and members in your Open Sparks folder, can see your photos.
* Both members and guests cannot see your photos unless some Sparks are flying.
* The content of your profile will need to be much more thorough in order to expect initial Sparks from others, since your photos will not be visible.
* Allows our shy members to be more active on the site.

Now Members have absolutely no reason not to post some photos! Enjoy.

Coming Soon...a new feature for our members to enjoy! Expect it in the next few days.

Hey, where are all the members?? Well, most everyone who has the ability to give us media attention has their hand out for money. And we have no money to give them. This is how it works online. I've made NO money from this site. I support this site with my real job. My hope is that in the future this site can maintain itself via advertising income. But, our membership has to go up, and soon!  :)

Certainly we are the Best Free Dating site on the internet; from design, to functionality, to spam protection, to a number of other unique features. I got you here with the feeble amount of money that I spend on advertising per month. I've only gotten outstanding feedback from members since this site was started. And I appreciate all feedback!

Currently we have almost 2000 members. So, we're getting somewhere.

Also in the news, we've noticed yet more crappy sites stealing our ideas. *yawn* I've talked about this previously. Unfortunately, it's expected.

What can you do to help make this site a success??
This is a question that I've been asked by numerous members since this site was born in January 2007. Here's some ideas:

* Email your favorite News or Blog site.
There's probably no better way to reach an audience, than for us to be spotlighted by a quality news or blog site.

* Email any of your interested friends about us.

* If you belong to MySpace, become our friend. We love having new friends linked in.

The sad reality is this: Without the $Million-dollar$ weekly advertising budget that the Big-Named sites have, it's extremely difficult to reach out to our audience. People like you, however, CAN make a huge difference! We definitely will not be able to beat the Big-Money scammers without you.

Thanks again for your support. We're still marching forward.  :)

Well, it's Official. Some sites have already begun stealing our ideas! So, what can I do?...I can barely afford rent around here. I knew it would happen sooner or later. *Sheeeesh* I still have even more totally new and fantastic ideas which I've yet to implement on this site. It's just a matter of time to get it done. Hey, I still work a regular full-time job just like you!...besides the work I do on this site.

So, keep an eye on us, you crappy and big-money dating sites out there. You haven't innovated anything in years. Perhaps we can help!  :)

It's now been over one week since we've released our first Press Release. We can now officially say that it was a totally worthless effort as far as direct results are concerned. We tried!

We got advice from some companies that we must change our site to become a pay-site. I think I'll toss this site in the dust bin before I do that. Pay-sites are absolutely ridiculous, and that's why I created this one.

We also got a flurry of specialty-spamming businesses calling to offer their "services". But, haven't they read our credo? Correct....we don't do that stuff!

Our traffic has moved UP more than 110% since our last traffic-related news on April 20th (in less than 3 months). We’ve now broken the 400,000 site-rank barrier for a 1 Week average. That is, if the data from alexa.com is accurate. The snapshot I see says "1 wk. Avg. 396,098". And that’s news to me!

Today I've released my first Press Release for this site. Click here to read it if you like! This press release "package" costs us $370 solely for distribution costs. I'll let you know in the near future if it was worth the trouble/cost. Hopefully this will bring us "out of the shadows" of the scary world wide webby.  :)

We have surpassed 1,000 Members today! Currently we have 53% Guys and 47% Gals. It took us 3 months to get our first 500 members; and it took us 2 months and 11 days to get the next 500 members. So our Wall Street headline will read, "Site Expands 100% During Fiscal Quarter!"  :)

I'll be posting whenever our population here doubles. Thanks to all of our members for supporting us during our first struggling 6 months of opening! And thanks for all the kind emails. I'm happy knowing that people realize exactly what we're trying to do here.

Yes, it's rough out there. But we're doing our best to promote our site. Our budget of $500 per month for advertising does not go far. Most likely, you've reached us by clicking on our advertising link somewhere. Our advertising doesn't really cut it, considering our competitors are spending upwards of $10,000 PER DAY, plus charge membership fees. Does anyone out there have a new plan for me?  :)

We've tried emailing the big-named popular news sites out there to get a mention. But our emails get no response. Only JAB- JustABout Everything has been gracious enough to give us a momentary spotlight...and we do appreciate it.

Perhaps it's true what they say...you need tons of disposable money and a lot of affluent contacts to create a successful website these days. We'll keep plugging along anyhow!  :)

I'm not only the WheresMyStar.com president...I'm also a client. That's right. I have a profile on this site as well. I'm single like you.

This site was not created by a bunch of suits with too much money in their pockets. This site was created by a man who is tired of the ripoffs out there, the cloned-turn-key dating sites, and the scams. I've been on all the big-name sites, and have paid for the pleasure of wasting my time and getting nowhere, probably as much as you have done.

When creating this site from scratch, I've made sure to not only compete with the big-money dating sites, but to surpass them with better features and functionality. Innovations like Sparks, Real Locations, and other unique functionalities listed on our homepage. We can only do so much advertising as we don't have deep pockets, and we do work full time jobs. Yet we are doing our best, with what limited resources we have, to draw attention to what we think is a refreshing haven. We hope you enjoy!

We have surpassed 500 members today! Sure we agree it's not a ton, but we're getting there. I’d like to thank all of our members for being here during the young age of our site. Thanks for understanding what we're trying to accomplish while we build this community. You’re all wonderful!

I can’t help but wonder though: It took us 3 months to reach the 500 member mark, yet all these new dating sites instantly claim to have 10 or 20 million members right from the start. Hmmm...either someone’s desperately lying (the old 'Sign Up First' scam), or we’re doing something wrong here. Yeah, you know the answer. Oh well, thanks again to all!
